julie, congratulations on stumbling upon the most important concept of gourmet--yes, gourmet--cooking: fresh ingredients. to be a "gourmet" cook is to be a cook that utilizes fresh, simple ingredients in a harmonious fashion--complicated recipes need not apply. in addition, i would suggest that growing herbs is a much better idea than buying them anywhere. if you can cook a simple meal, you can grow you own herbs--all year if you grow in pots.
